The above normal rainfall that was experienced in June failed to reoccur in July. Rainfall although reaching 2 inches was still one and half inches below the monthly average. It was a very hot month and it was noted that the daily average temperatures closely approximated the daily minimum temperatures. Winds were from the East South East at about 15 knots.
A ridge of high pressure dominated the weather across the islands from the beginning of the month resulting in fair to partly cloudy skies. However a weak upper level trough across the Northern Islands of the Eastern Caribbean generated some cloudy spells with scattered showers occurring from the 1st to the 3rd. The Atlantic High Pressure ridge strengthened producing a strong trade wind flow across the islands and a Tropical wave moved across mainly the Southern Caribbean islands produced enough moisture to cause a few showers across the islands. Two other tropical waves affected the islands up to the 7th producing a few showers across the islands. Winds were mainly from the East South East at about 15 knots. Seas were slight to moderate . Small craft operators were advised against rough seas and gusty winds.
A strong tropical wave affected the Southern islands but had little effect on Antigua and Barbuda as a high pressure ridge dominated, generating Easterly winds at 16- 24 knots with higher gusts. Moisture was advected into the area from the 13th as a tropical wave interacted with the Inter tropical Convergence Zone. This interaction led to 9.1 mm of rainfall occurring on the 12th. The atmosphere remained moist for a few days afterwards by which time another trough interaction produced 5.5 mm of rain. Seas remained mostly Moderate to rough; waves 2 - 2.8m or 6 - 9ft. A Small Craft Advisory remained in effect for rough seas and gusty winds.
A trough of low pressure at all levels of the atmosphere generated some cloudy skies from the 16th and combined with a tropical wave on the 20th to produce the month's maximum daily total of 9.5mm, and 22.3mm of rain up to the 22nd. Winds were mainly from the East South East at 14 knots. Seas were slight to moderate waves 2.1m/7ft. prompting a small craft advisory for above normal seas, gusty winds, low visibilities and marginally safe seas.
Tropical depression #6 formed East North of Barbados on the 22nd but soon weakened to a strong tropical wave that affected the Southern islands then went on to affect Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. The seas across Antigua and Barbuda were affected by the wave however, becoming moderate to rough with waves 1.5 - 2.5m or 5 - 8ft. A Small Craft Advisory remained in effect for rough seas and gusty winds.
A number of weak tropical wave moved across the islands from the 27th to the end of the month. These brought some brief cloudy spells with scattered showers amounting to 3.2 mm of rain across the islands.
