AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
FOR THE LEEWARD ISLANDS AND BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS
ISSUED BY ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA METEOROLOGICAL SERVICES

15:49 UTC FEBRUARY 22 2017

DISCUSSION: DRY AND STABLE CONDITIONS PREVAILED ACROSS THE LEEWARD AND BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS. THE AVERAGE TO LOW MOISTURE LEVEL GENERATED PARTLY SUNNY CONDITIONS AND INHIBITED SHOWER ACTIVITY FOR THE FORECAST AREA. RADAR IMAGERY SHOWED SHOWERS MAINLY IN COASTAL WATERS OF ANTIGUA. MEANWHILE, SEA CONDITIONS WERE MOSTLY SLIGHT.

THE LATEST MODEL PROJECTIONS FOR THE NEXT 24HRS HAVE SHOWN THAT DRIER CONDITIONS WILL CONTINUE TO INHIBIT SHOWER ACTIVITY FOR THE REMAINDER OF TODAY; THEREFORE CONDITIONS WILL BE MOSTLY FAIR WITH A MINIMAL CHANCE OF SHOWERS. HOWEVER, THERE IS A SLIGHT CHANCE OF SHOWERS OVERNIGHT INTO THE EARLY MORNING DUE TO A WEAK LOW LEVEL TROUGH IN THE VICINITY; THUS, PARTLY CLOUDY CONDITIONS WITH A SLIGHT CHANCE OF SHOWERS. POSSIBLE RAINFALL ACCUMULATION IS 0 TO 1 MM (0 TO 0.04 INCH). SEAS ARE EXPECTED TO CONTINUE MOSTLY SLIGHT. RADAR IMAGERY, CURRENT OBSERVATIONS AND LATEST MODEL PROJECTIONS ARE IN GENERAL AGREEMENT WITH THE LATEST ISSUED FORECAST.
