The month of March, though dry across the islands, was wetter than for the year 2003. The month's amount of 1.94 inches recorded at the V.C Bird Airport was above the monthly average of 1.74 inches. The month's maximum daily rainfall was 11.8 millimeters which occurred on the 1st. The winds were mainly from the East at an average of 13.0 knots with a maximum 10-minute wind of 24 knots on the 2nd.
A frontal trough approached the islands from the west bringing partly cloudy skies with periods of increased cloudiness and showers across the islands. This system produced the month's maximum daily rainfall and the max 6-hr rainfall of 6.7 millimeters on the 2nd at 12:00 UTC. Unstable conditions continued until the 5th; thereafter, a high pressure ridge provided stability across the islands although a few showers as a result of pockets of moisture occurred until the 10th. Winds were mainly from the East at 15.6 knots while seas were moderate to rough with swells 6-10 feet.
Stable conditions continued across the islands until a weak trough moved across the islands on the 14th resulting in cloudiness and showers. Also, pockets of moisture from time to time moved across the islands resulting in showers up to the 26th. Winds were mainly from the East at 13.6 knots. Seas were mainly moderate at 6 - 8 feet but occasionally rough, prompting a small craft advisory.
A weak high pressure ridge led to fairer skies from the 27th to the end of the month but some quick passing showers also prevailed. These were the result of an upper-level trough to the west and enhanced low-level moisture from a low-level trough. Winds were mainly from the North East at 6.8 knots while seas were slight to moderate at 1.5 to 2 meters.
